What motivated you to join the programme?
I first got to hear of the Ambassador Programme through a friend who was already in SIT as I joined the school. She was both an Ambassador and a Vanguard and she spoke about the programme highly and how she found many like-minded friends who all wanted to give back to the school to make it a more enjoyable place for all.
This really resonated with me and I too wanted to contribute to the school and I saw the unique opportunity of being the first batch that gets to move into the Punggol campus, where finally all SITizens share a common home. Additionally, it is going to be an exciting time and an important one too, where we get to lay the foundation of what unites us as a school, and to me, the ambassador programme is where I would get to define what it means to be a SITizen. Moreover, I was also excited at all the different opportunities that SAMs would provide, and safe to say in my experience, they went beyond all my expectations.
What was your most memorable moment as a SITizen Ambassador?
Honestly there might be too many to pick! But out of all the events that I’ve done and if I had to choose my favourites they’d be:
My first ever SAMs event – Student Leaders Appreciation Night (SLAN) 2023
You never forget your first event and I remember mine vividly, as a SAM during SLAN, we are tasked with hosting the SIT senior management and I was seated at table 2, with Professor John Thong, the Provost of SIT. I remember having sweaty palms almost throughout the night and always feeling a little anxious. But it was overall a good experience as I got to put the soft skills that the SAMs training equipped us to the test!
The other event would be the SIT 10th Anniversary Dinner
And perhaps the most memorable event as of yet, SIT’s 10th anniversary gala dinner night, where I hosted the then Minister Lawrence Wong and famously took a 0.5x shot with him (fun fact: I was so nervous that I practiced taking x0.5 shots before the event!), there were also three other ministers present and as Ambassadors, the ministers wanted to talk and interact with us and hear our stories!
The Ambassadors and I escorted them into the venue, while chatting with them and sharing about the 10 years of SIT. to think how far I have progressed in a year, from my first event up to this one, and I’m thankful to be a part of this programme. It has enriched my school experience and allowed me to grow in ways that I would have never expected.
What does being a SITizen Ambassador mean to you even beyond your time in SIT as a student?
Being a SITizen Ambassador means that you are a role model to your peers, that you are the face of the school, the bridge between SIT and the industry, the true heartbeat of the school. And beyond your time in SIT, you continue to wear the badge with honour as now you carry with you the weight and reputation of the school. The SITizen Ambassador Programme will equip you with the most essential of soft skills, how to carry yourself and how to speak, and will sharpen these skills in fail-safe environments, where your growth as an ambassador is always the key.
