PDU (PEB) – Pending approval

This is the second module of a three-module course that prepares candidates for the Specialist Registration Examination in Tunnel Engineering.1

The three modules are:

  • TE1 – Geology of Singapore and Tunnel Design
  • TE2 – Tunnelling Construction
  • TE3 – Tunnelling Operation and Impact Assessment

TE1 is not a prerequisite for TE2 and TE3. TE2 is not a prerequisite for TE3.

The complete course will cover:

  • Excavation methods (mechanised tunnelling)
  • Guide to Tunnel Boring Machines
  • Logistic and supply chain for mechanised tunnelling
  • Guide to tunnel rings and segments
  • Construction safety, fire safety, ventilation, and environmental control during tunnelling
  • Guide to tunnelling TBM parameters during construction
  • Operating in pressurised environment
  • Sprayed concrete lining and open face tunnelling
  • Cavern design and construction, drill and blast
  • Ground improvement for tunnelling works
  • Case History for mechansied tunnelling and conventional (SCL) tunnelling.

1 Refer to “Guidelines to Sit for Specialist Registration Examination and Register as Specialist Professional Engineer in the Specialized Branch of Tunnelling Engineering (Oct 2020)”: https://www.peb.gov.sg/Downloads/spe_tn_reg.pdf

Who Should Attend

  • Civil engineers who are registered professional engineers with the Professional Engineers Board Singapore (PEB) and who wish to be certified as Specialist in Tunnel Engineering
  • Engineers who are involved with tunnel constructions such as geotechnical engineers, civil engineers, site engineers, field engineers, project engineers and construction managers
