Course Overview
SDU (SISO) – 16 SDUs (SISO)
PDU (PEB) – Pending approval
Safety Integrity Level (SIL) and Safety Instrumented Function (SIF) are vital for industry safety, with SIL assessing the reliability of a safety system and SIF executing safety functions to mitigate hazardous events in the workplace.
This course introduces learners to a methodology used by organisations to demonstrate the achievement of the target SIL of a SIF. It covers various topics such as failure types, failure rates, and common causes of failure when assessing sub-systems with redundancy. Learners will explore the concepts of hardware fault tolerance (HFT) and safe failure fraction (SFF) to assess architectural constraints effectively. They will also learn reliability modelling techniques using reliability block diagrams (RBDs) and gain insights into the criticality of choosing appropriate failure rate data.
