Research Interests

  • Diet and gastrointestinal disorders

    My research interests include the study of diet as a therapy for gastrointestinal conditions including both functional and inflammatory bowel conditions

    I am interested in the effects of different fibres on gut symtpoms and microbiome and disease parameters. I am interested in the effects of whole diet interventions (e.g. low FODMAP diet), single fibre interventions (e.g. prebiotics) and the impact of soluble fibre alone or in combination with fermentable fibre on digestive health. 

    I am interested in research for service improvement within health care systems especially in examining how the integration of gastroenterology dietitians can improve efficiency in functional gut and inflammatory bowel disease services. 

    I have specialist knowledge on conducting systematic reviews, meta-analyses and developing consensus guidelines for the nutritional management of gastrointestinal disorders. 

    I am interested in how we can use technology and healthcare app development to combat nutrition misinformation online. 

Current Projects

  • Prebiotics in adults with inflammatory bowel disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
    – Present

    I am currently undertaking a systematic review of prebiotics in inflammatory bowel disease with a view to conducting a meta-analysis should the data be of sufficient quantity and quality. 

  • Guidelines for the dietary management of irritable bowel syndrome
    – Present

    I am currently working as part of a team developing the 2025 update to the British Dietetic Association guidelines for the dietary management of irritable bowel syndrome.
