Sungsoo Kim

Biography
Dr. Sungsoo Kim is an Associate Professor in the Hospitality Business program and an Association for College and University Educators (ACUE) Distinguished Teaching Scholar in the Business, Communication and Design (BCD) Cluster at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). He holds an earned doctorate (Ph.D.) degree in Tourism Management from the University of Florida, Gainesville, and a master's (M.S.) degree in Hospitality Management from the Pennsylvania State University, University Park, respectively. In addition, he is a certified educator in Hospitality Digital Marketer (CHDM), Revenue Management Executive (CRME), Advanced Hotel and Tourism Analytics (CAHTA), and Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA).
He had worked in the United States for about 14 years before joining the SIT. He served as a tenured associate professor with the School of Marketing in the Business School at the University of Southern Mississippi. He held various academic positions at the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and Youngstown State University, including program coordinator, university curriculum and assessment advisor, student advisor for various clubs, and distinguish scholar.
Dr. Kim is the author of a number of articles in academic journals, conference proceedings, newspapers, and professional research reports (e.g., feasibility study; economic impact study; strategic management plan). As a principal investigator (PI) and Co-PI, he has been involved in several funded research projects in the State of Mississippi and other areas of the United States and for the Government of the Republic of Korea. In addition, he was a representative of the Republic of Korea for the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). He attended the UNESCO committee meeting in Durban, South Africa, as a delegation from the Republic of Korea to establish a management plan for the World Heritage site.
Additionally, Dr. Kim has significant industry experience in strategic marketing planning/management, information technology (IT), and supply and demand forecasting in Australia, the Republic of Korea, and the United States. Based on these experiences, he served on the strategic planning committee for the International Council on Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Education (ICHRIE). He has provided various consulting services, including hotel air quality and well-being, economic impact study, market feasibility study (e.g., aquarium, convention center, hotel), visitor study, and website and social media evaluation.
Dr. Kim has taught various courses at the University of Florida, Youngstown State University, the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and the University of Southern Mississippi, including the department core courses; “Hospitality Managerial Accounting,” “the Financial Aspect of Hospitality Operations,” “Revenue Management,” “Hospitality Operations Management (Capstone Course)” with the oral-intensive designation, “e-Commerce in Hospitality and Tourism Industry,” “Strategic Tourism Management,” “Hospitality Marketing and Sales,” “Service Management,” “Hotel and Conventional Sales,” "Hotel Operations," “Research Method,” “Directed Individual Study,” “Professional Paper (Graduate Course),” the MBA course; “Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism,” “Introduction to Tourism Economics (Professional Program), and “Strategic Tourism Marketing (Graduate Course)”.
