Profile
Biography
Eugene, a Registered Nurse with over two decades of nursing experience, has made significant contributions to the healthcare and education sectors. His journey began in oncology nursing, where he worked at Mount Elizabeth Hospital (MEH) and Changi General Hospital (CGH).
Driven by a passion for developing competency and building capability for a future-ready workforce, Eugene transitioned into nursing education. He oversaw pre-professional and continuing education, eventually leading the nursing education and development department at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). He developed and taught oncology, palliative care, and geriatric nursing programmes for trained nurses there. Eugene also played a crucial role in overseeing the transition-to-practice programme for novice nurses. He also collaborated with higher learning institutes as a nursing clinical educator lead for nursing students during their clinical practicum. Currently, he continues to support life support training for nurses as a Chief Instructor and Auditor in both basic cardiac life support and life support courses for nurses.
His dedication to nursing excellence earned him several prestigious awards, including the Singhealth-Lee Foundation DS Lee Excellence in Nursing Award (2009), National Healthcare Group Outstanding Nurse Teacher Award (2014) and National Healthcare Group Education Leaders Award (2021). Eugene’s commitment to education led him to pursue a PhD in Nursing at the National University of Singapore (NUS) under the Ministry of Health Nursing Development Scholarship, focusing on novice nurses’ transition to practice journeys.
Beyond his clinical work, Eugene has made significant strides in academia. He served as an academic faculty at the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS), overseeing the development of continuing and professional education programs to upskill lifelong learners. Additionally, he holds an adjunct lecturer position at Nanyang Technological University (NTU), where he teaches a Master’s module in Applied Gerontology. As an adjunct adult educator, Eugene actively contributes to the Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance program (formerly known as ACTA) at the Institute of Adult Learning (IAL).
As an academic dean at Ngee Ann Academy (NAA), he led the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes from prominent university partners. Eugene’s responsibilities included developing new academic partnerships, program planning, validation, and review.
Eugene is an Associate Professor at the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). He contributes to academic teaching, supervises thesis work for nursing and allied health undergraduate students, and leads the Bachelor of Science with Honours in Nursing programme as the Programme Leader.
Eugene’s research interests centre around novice nurses’ transition to practice journeys and training effectiveness. He is also passionate about implementing science and nurse-led evidence-based practice projects in areas such as geriatric, oncology, and palliative care nursing.
As a strong advocate for lifelong learning, Eugene collaborates with various healthcare and adult learning institutions to design and facilitate impactful learning experiences.
