Innovation is essential for SMEs to succeed, yet many struggle to turn innovation-related efforts into impactful actions. This challenge is compounded by a lack of expert guidance and support from industry partners, making it difficult to stay focused and up-to-date with market trends. Additionally, daily operational demands often prevent SMEs from breaking old mindsets and exploring new, innovative solutions.

To address these challenges, SIT presents the Innovation Leadership Programme (ILP), a three-phase programme aimed at guiding SMEs to acquire innovation know-how and implement them for business growth and success.

Phase 1: Structured Training

In Phase 1, SIT offers a series of five one-day courses to help SMEs cultivate an innovative mindset and use open innovation to address resource challenges.  You will engage in hands-on learning, applying theoretical concepts to actual innovation challenges within your organisation, and benefiting from the collective experiences of peers and innovation experts.  By the end of the course series, each SME is expected to have developed and thoroughly evaluated an innovation idea.

Phases 2 and 3: Project Scoping and Implementation

Many SMEs struggle to sustain innovation momentum after training, often falling short of their goals. Phase 2 addresses this challenge by assigning innovation experts to help SMEs define their innovation project scope and, when relevant, connect with key stakeholders in the innovation ecosystem. Advancement to Phase 2 is contingent on an assessment of project readiness at the end of Phase 1.

In Phase 3, SMEs can leverage SIT’s comprehensive resources, including product ideation, rapid prototyping, and student work-study programmes, if these match their innovation needs.

"ILP is not just a training programme. For Dr. Lim and I, we care about the Impact. We don’t want people to fall off the cliff because they are not supported after the training workshops... That is why we are facilitating the programme with SIT that has the capability and infrastructure to help SMEs continue their innovation journey and sustain the momentum. Post training, we will support the SMEs as they undertake their business innovation projects to seek breakthroughs and achieve successful outcomes."
