Explore the principles, strategies, and practices of the circular economy, focusing on innovative design methodologies and processes.

Through this module, examine how design thinking can be leveraged to create products, systems, and business models that promote resource efficiency, waste reduction, and environmental sustainability across different industries. With a blend of theoretical frameworks, case studies, and hands-on design exercises, learners will learn how to apply circular economy principles to real-world challenges and develop solutions that contribute to a more sustainable future.

This module is part of the Graduate Certificate in Sustainability (GCert in Sust PP) and supports the Engineering Chartership in Sustainability by the Institution of Engineers Singapore. SIT, one of two IHLs partnering with the IES Academy, offers the full suite of modules for those pursuing the chartership.

Who Should Attend

Learners who are seeking to enhance their expertise in environmental sustainability across diverse industry sectors, including sustainability officers, policymakers, managers, and business owners.

Prerequisites
  • For learners who are not pursuing Engineering Sustainability Chartership:
    • A Bachelor's degree from a recognised university
  • For learners who are pursuing Engineering Sustainability Chartership:
    • An engineering degree or an equivalent qualification recognised by the Professional Engineers Board Singapore (PEB)
    • A STEM-based degree meeting the Chartered Engineer (CEng) qualification requirements (IES chapter) and seek CEng accreditation

Certificate and Assessment

A Certificate of Attainment will be issued to participants who:

  • Attend at least 75% of the module; and
  • Undertake and pass credit bearing assessment (worth 3 credits) during the module, which can be stacked towards the Graduate Certificate in Sustainability Principles and Practices

Participants who meet the attendance requirement but do not pass the assessment will receive a Certificate of Participation.

Assessment Plan

Learners will have to complete a project assignment.
