PDU (PEB) – Pending approval

Effective from AY2025/26 Trimester 2 (January 2026), the Postgraduate Certificate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering will be transiting to Graduate Certificate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering. For more details, please refer to the full notice here.

To provide module participants with in-depth knowledge of the characteristics and models of various types of electrical machines, of the operation and control of these machines as generators and motors, and the ability to design the machines and their control systems.

The importance of rotating electrical machines as energy converters is ever growing, not just in large electric power plants but also in smaller distributed generators driven by gas, hydro and wind turbines. They are also increasingly used for electric propulsion in electric and hybrid-electric vehicles and marine vessels, besides electric railways.

The topics are grouped into three areas:

  • Modelling and analysis of electrical machines
  • Design of electrical machines
  • Control systems for electrical machines as motors and generators

Who Should Attend

  • Engineers working in the power and energy sector
  • IT professionals in any power and energy-related businesses
  • Electrical and electronic engineering professionals
  • Researchers and educators in electrical engineering and urban sustainability-related areas
Prerequisites
  • Bachelor degree in Engineering
  • At least one-year of relevant working experience

What You Will Learn

  • Analytical modelling and simulation of electrical machines
