
Course Overview
16 CPE points (AHPC)
Build a strong foundation of knowledge and skills to effectively manage patients with low vision, while gaining advanced insights into best practices for low vision care beyond pre-registration professional education.
Designed for occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and registered nurses, this course offers opportunities for learners to apply visual assessments to identify common vision-related issues that limit daily activities. They will also develop foundational management strategies around visual skills, environmental modifications, functional mobility training and assistive technology devices.
Learners will also acquire skills to support their patients with visual impairment in psychosocial adjustment and will be equipped to identify and access resources to better manage the needs of such patients.

Prerequisites
- A minimum of 1 year of practice experience is required
What You Will Learn
- Identify various causes and common types of eye conditions that cause low vision
- Conduct and interpret basic visual assessments
- Explore assistive technology devices for visual impairment
- Apply basic visual skills and environmental modifications to facilitate activity participation
- Apply basic mobility techniques to support safe functional mobility
- Familiarise with support and referral resources for visual impairment
- Facilitate adjustment to vision loss

Certificate and Assessment
A Certificate of Attainment will be issued to participants who
- Attend at least 75% of the course; and
- Undertake and pass non-credit bearing assessment during the course
Participants who meet the attendance requirement but do not pass the assessment will receive a Certificate of Participation.
Assessment Plan
Assessment Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ)
Duration: 30 – 45 minutes
Weightage: 100%
A knowledge quiz is necessary to demonstrate if learners are able to achieve the required course learning outcomes. Learners will need to answer 20 MCQs at the end of the workshop.
