Diverse networks drive innovation by fostering creativity, collaboration, and challenging conventional thinking, which provides a competitive edge. Therefore, professionals and leaders must develop social networking skills to collaborate with stakeholders across organisational boundaries and fully leverage open innovation.

This course will introduce learners to the concept of social capital and provide guidance on building diverse social networks. It will illustrate how social capital acts as a catalyst for innovation by facilitating knowledge exchange, fostering collaboration, mobilising resources, and facilitating collective problem-solving within social networks.

Learners will also gain the opportunity to participate in panel discussions, which will feature representatives from diverse institutions of higher learning, research centres, and centres of innovation. These discussions will focus on strategies for leveraging the technical resources provided by these institutions to bolster the learners's innovation initiatives. The panel discussion also serves as a case study illustrating how learners can broaden their social networks to access resources beyond their individual capacities.
