SIT became Singapore’s 5th autonomous public university in 2014. In 2016, we launched the inaugural pre-registration allied health programmes of physiotherapy, occupational therapy, diagnostic radiography, and radiation therapy. The launch marked the momentous beginning of the dedicated training and grooming of Singapore’s own allied health professionals. Since then, HSS has rapidly grown from strength to strength. The addition of new undergraduate programmes Dietetics and Nutrition in 2019 and Speech and Language Therapy in 2020 serve the rising demand for holistic care and care services in Singapore. With the evolving healthcare climate and an ageing population, SIT-HSS is well-placed to nurture a reservoir of talents and professionals who will form a vital pillar to support Singapore’s healthcare system.

The teaching faculty of the undergraduate programmes in HSS has expanded to more than 70 members whose expertise includes allied health specialties and basic sciences. In addition to being experienced and passionate educators, many HSS faculty members are established researchers and thought leaders who push the frontiers of knowledge and champion evidence-based clinical practice and education.

Mr Patrick Ker

"At CGH, we're committed to grooming the next generation of health professionals, which is why we have decided to take in SIT students through its clinical placement programme. Having students at CGH gives our staff a chance to support their development and personally mentor these up-and-coming health professionals. It has been rewarding to see the students develop, both professionally and personally, in their clinical placements. The maturity, enthusiasm, and professionalism of SIT students is indeed promising for our healthcare sector ahead."

Mr Gabriel Leong
Head, Radiography, Changi General Hospital

"It has been a pleasure for us to work closely with SIT faculty and students. Through their clinical placements at our organisation, we find the students to be well-informed and prepared for a career in the healthcare sector. The dedication and commitment we see in the faculty members are also highly commendable as they come with a unique blend of academic credentials and work experiences, coupled with an intrinsic motivation to see their students succeed. The relationship we have with the university is invaluable and critical to our effort to hire the best, who can assimilate in their future workplace."
