Course Overview
This introductory-level micro-credential prepares learners with foundational skills for a career in Information Technology (IT) or advanced studies through four key competencies in digital and IT fundamentals, programming, as well as logic and discrete structures.
As a learner, you will develop an Infocomm Technology (ICT) mindset and grasp the significance and interconnections of various computing technologies in the area of digital and IT fundamentals. Key topics include digital data presentation, digital circuits, computer architecture, software development life cycle (SDLC), databases, algorithms, and security.
Basic programming concepts such as data types, control structures, functions, recursion, arrays, pointers, files, and data structures will also be introduced so that the learners can design, implement and test programs to solve real-world problems. This will be taught using the C programming language.
In the area of logic and discrete structures, you will explore introductory topics such as basic logic, proof strategies and techniques, functions, relations and sets, sequences and series, divisibility and modular arithmetic, and permutation. These topics lay the foundation for algorithm design, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence.
Integrating online and in-person delivery, the micro-credential offers various learning activities such as interactive videos, discussion forums, Q&A live sessions, and laboratory sessions. You will gain valuable insights into implementing digital components and logical principles in programs to enable automation.
This micro-credential is part of the CSM Pathway in Applied Computing.
Who Should Attend
- Individuals seeking to reskill in order to pivot into entry-level IT roles.
What You Will Learn
This micro-credential is predominantly delivered through a competency-based education (CBE) approach where learners acquire and demonstrate mastery of knowledge and skills that are directly relevant to job functions. This prepares them to be industry-ready where they can apply their newly acquired competencies to their work.
List of Competency Units
Code | Competency Unit Title | Credits |
---|---|---|
ICT1501C | Digital Fundamentals | 3 |
ICT1502C | Information Technology Fundamentals | 3 |
ICT1503C | Programming Fundamentals in C | 6 |
ICT1504C | Logic and Discrete Structures | 6 |
The above are competency units that constitute this micro-credential. Upon completion of the micro-credential, you will be able to:
- Demonstrate the use of digital computer and software engineering concepts to solve basic IT related problems
- Apply logic and discrete structures to analyse an algorithmic task
- Develop and test a well-structured program that can perform a specific algorithmic task to solve fundamental programming problems
Coaching for Success
During the course, you will have access to a team of qualified success coaches who can work with you on learning strategies or to develop a personalised learning plan. Through the success coaches, you can gain access to a wide range of resources and support services, and be empowered with the necessary tools to navigate your learning journey successfully.
