Course Overview

This module provides students with a fundamental understanding of the principles of project management, as defined by the Project Management Institute (PMI)’s latest version of Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK).
Students will learn the concept, phases, processes and knowledge areas of project management, so that students can apply the knowledge into managing their current and future projects using scientific methodologies. The topics include the project management principles, phases, and process groups such as initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing. The lectures will detail the knowledge areas, including project integration management, project scope management, project stakeholder management, project schedule management, project cost management, project quality management, project resource management, communications management, procurement management and project risks management etc.
Computer tools, such as Microsoft Project software, will be introduced to provide hands-on practical skills with the above topics. Students will apply the knowledge learnt in this module on a serials of case studies and project tasks. Assessment will be through quizzes, individual assignment and team-based project tasks.

Prerequisites
- Candidates should possess a Bachelor degree in engineering
- Candidates must have at least one year of relevant working experience in the built environment or engineering industry

Certificate and Assessment
A Certificate of Participation will be issued to participants who:
- Attend 75% of the course; and
- Undertake non-credit bearing assessment (during course)
A Certificate of Attainment for each module will be issued to participants who:
- Attend at least 75% of each respective module; and
- Participants who pass the Continuous Assessment
