SIT Community Connects:
Building Bonds in Punggol

As part of its 10th anniversary celebrations, the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) launched the ‘10 Acts for Good’ initiative, a year-long commitment to give back to the community.

SIT Community Connects, 1 of the 10 Acts for Good, is a series of workshops held in collaboration with the Punggol Regional Library which brings together SIT staff and students to share their passion and expertise with the public.

Travel Tips and Tricks Take Centre Stage

On 17 August 2024, Professional Officer John Sim and Air Transport Management students Ariel Yeo and Malcolm Chua led an informative sharing session titled ‘Tips and Tricks of Air Travel’.

Drawing from their expertise, the speakers shared valuable insights into the world of air travel, demystifying airline pricing strategies, offering practical tips for securing the best deals, and simplifying the often-complex check-in process.

The session was well received, and the speakers tackled wide-ranging questions from the audience. The attendees left the session with new knowledge on how to navigate their future travels more effectively.

Sharing Skills and Spreading Joy with Origami

On 29 December 2024, SIT volunteers taught library visitors how to fold origami otters at a walk-in booth as part of the Punggol Regional Library’s Jamboree event. Children watched with delight as flat paper transformed into Singapore's beloved wildlife symbol under their fingertips. Participants of all ages eagerly learned to fold origami otters, guided by the patient hands of SIT staff and students.

The event provided a platform for skill-sharing and intergenerational bonding. Participants, both young and old, had smiles all around. This hands-on activity not only fostered creativity but also created lasting memories for families and individuals alike.

10 Acts for Good: SIT's commitment to engage with the community

These events represent just two examples of SIT's commitment to engage with the community. Through "10 Acts for Good," SIT is not only celebrating its milestone anniversary but also actively contributing to the well-being of the community, fostering stronger bonds, and sharing knowledge that empowers individuals.

The SIT Community Connects initiative at the Punggol Regional Library highlights how educational institutions can create lasting impact through thoughtful community engagement. It proves that sometimes the most valuable lessons happen outside the classroom, in the spaces where people gather, learn, and grow together.
