SIT Partners with SHINE
to Empower Students Through Night Tutoring Programme

In another meaningful initiative under SIT's 10 Acts for Good, the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) has collaborated with SHINE Children and Youth Services to provide evening tutoring sessions for students preparing for their N-Level examinations. This heartwarming initiative shows SIT's dedication to building community bonds and nurturing educational success among young learners.

More than night tutoring sessions

Every other evening in Hougang, staff from SIT opened their hearts and shared their knowledge in supporting secondary school students. These sessions became more than just tutoring – they created a warm and encouraging environment where students could discover their strengths, build confidence and develop effective study habits.

While helping students master core subjects and exam preparation strategies, SIT volunteers formed genuine bonds with each student, working closely to address their specific learning needs. Each session became a chance to not just teach, but to mentor and inspire - building students' confidence and motivation — essential elements for academic success.

Hope blossomed in the students receiving tutoring. Azil, who prepared for his N-Level examinations, noted: "The tutoring sessions helped me understand difficult concepts better, and the tutors made learning more interesting. They also shared their own experiences, which motivated me to work harder."

Through this partnership with SHINE, some of our colleagues from SIT connected with and supported these students. We're pleased to have been able to use our knowledge and skills in education to uplift the wider community around us.

Working with these students touched my heart and proved incredibly rewarding. We weren't just helping them with their subjects; we were showing them that they matter and have the potential to achieve their dreams with the right support and guidance.

SITizen-DNA: Being grounded in the community

The initiative reflected the SITizen-DNA of being grounded in the community, as volunteers from various disciplines came together to make meaningful contributions to society. Through such programmes, SIT continued to foster a spirit of giving back and community service among its students and staff.

As SIT celebrated its milestone year and recent move to its new Punggol campus, initiatives like the night tutoring programme with SHINE showcased how SIT continues to strengthen its community bonds and create a lasting positive impact on Singapore's youth.
