University Students’ Perceptions of Educators’ Use of AI in Teaching and Learning

Grant Name
Applied Learning and Innovation Grant (ALIGN)

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is becoming more common in Teaching & Learning (T&L), especially in higher education. SIT’s stance is that AI is a permanent feature and that as teachers, we should learn to harness AI for T&L. However, students’ views on educators’ AI-use in T&L are not well understood. Therefore, this project aims to explore university students’ views on educators’ AI use in T&L. A literature review will be done to identify various activities involved in T&L and students’ views on AI-use in such activities. Focus group discussions will be held with students and SIT staff (faculty and other support staff that engage students) to further enrich the list of activities and views related to them. Findings from the focus group discussions will then be used to design a survey. The survey will be administered to students in SIT to investigate students’ views on AI use in T&L for a more representative sentiment of the issue.
