Remote Assessment and Proctoring using Intelligent Devices (RAPID)
Grant Name
Applied Learning and Innovation Grant (ALIGN)Abstract
Our project intends to build on existing technologies to achieve lightweight, proctoring services that track the user's PC operation; virtually and physically. We propose a cyber-physical platform, Remote Assessment and Proctoring using Intelligent Devices (RAPID), that offloads tracking of user operations during remote assessments to an external device plugged into the test-taker's machine. Like existing solutions, RAPID would include a front-facing camera that captures the test-taker's head and shoulders. In addition to monitoring the services running on the PC, RAPID would also keep track of what is displayed on the monitor screen via deploying image analytics.
RAPID will demonstrate its ability to proctor software-based assessments remotely. Such setup attempts to discourage dishonest behaviors and lay a foundation for future work on more advanced remote proctoring. The prototype would initially be tested and deployed for embedded system (ICT2104) lab test and subsequent deployment can be expended to any other software-based assessment that requires software or tools not under the LMS.
