Course Overview
Chesbrough first defined the concept of "Open Innovation" (OI) in 2003.
The co-creation of solutions, which involves leveraging the capabilities, ideas, and expertise of different parties reduces development times, lowers costs, and creates more significant value creation.
In addition, it also lowers innovation risks and provides alternatives to address complex and technologically challenging problems.
To fully harness the potential of OI, individuals, and leaders need to develop ecosystem leadership skills, enabling effective collaboration with stakeholders across organisational boundaries.
These skills also foster a "system engineering" approach promoting the development of customer-oriented products and services. Such skills are essential for individuals, particularly engineers and engineering managers, to recognise that the most effective solutions often emerge through co-creation with others, rather than relying solely on individual expertise, creativity, and hard work.
