SITizens Give Class Giving 2023 Their Resounding Support
Together, they have raised more than $14,000 (and counting) towards the SIT Bursary for SIT students who need the support.
At the Singapore Institute of Technology’s Graduation (held from 11th to 13th of October 2023 at The Theatre @ Mediacorp), the graduating Class of 2023 had something else to rejoice and bond over other than getting their degree scrolls together. Many of them gathered at the Class Giving Booth to respond to the call “$23 for 2023” to commemorate their graduation – with a gift made towards the SIT Bursary for their juniors who need financial support.
The graduation week alone saw more than 160 donors coming forward to Class Giving 2023, and by late October 2023, Class Giving 2023 has raised over $14,000 in donations from more than 580 donors, the majority of whom are from the Class of 2023, as well as other SIT students, some parents, faculty, and friends.
Having received financial aid during her polytechnic days, Civil Engineering fresh graduate Ms Sabrina Muhayat made a gift on her graduation day. She says: “We are privileged to be here and to graduate. The donations can allow this dream to happen to others too.”
Spearheaded by 78 of the year’s graduating SITizens – also known as Class Champions – the annual Class Giving drive supports the SIT Bursary, one of the most accessible financial aid instruments at SIT for financially disadvantaged students. The bursary, valued at $3,000 each, will help recipients cover some of their tuition fees and living expenses.
Mr Jonathan Ow, one of the Class Champions for this year, believes that having a great support system is vital for success. He hopes that by going the extra mile, he can inspire others to do the same. Says the Chemical Engineering graduate: “I wish to give back to help my juniors and to spread the word for this cause, so that more of them are able to continue their education without having to worry so much about finances.”
