Radiobiology and Radiation Protection
This module aims to provide an introduction to the key concepts of radiobiology applied to diagnostic medical imaging and radiation therapy. The interactions of radiation with molecules, cells, tissues and the body, and resultant biophysical events will be presented. Somatic, genetic and embryonic radiation effects, Law of Bergonié and Tribondeau, cell survival and recovery, radiation dose response curves, acute and late effects of radiation, will be discussed and examined.
This module is also designed to present basic principles of radiation protection and safety for medical radiation professionals. Radiation health and safety requirements of regulatory agencies, accreditation agencies and health care organizations are incorporated.
