Programme Overview
The Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering (Building Services) is a three-year direct honours degree programme developed in consultation with the Building and Construction Authority, Singapore.
The programme provides mechanical engineering training with a focus on the delivery of sustainable buildings to prepare students to become building mechanical engineers. It also develops students’ lifelong skills to ensure they stay relevant in the building services engineering industry in Singapore and beyond. Students will go through rigorous academic training conducted by highly qualified professors and professional officers, as well as a eight-month Integrated Work Study Programme in the industry. SIE (Building Services) students are being trained to be eligible for Professional Engineering (Mechanical) qualification.
Students who perform well in the programme may proceed to pursue the Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering programme. Students may also obtain professional certifications in Green Mark Certification, Fire Services Safety Management and Workplace Safety and Health.
Programme Educational Objectives
Graduates of the Master of Science (Mechanical Engineering) with Bachelor of Engineering in Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering (Building Services) programmes, after working for three to five years, are expected to be:
- Competent in solving complex engineering issues in the Built Environment with critical thinking and skillsets in Sustainability and Integrated Digital Technologies.
- Nimble to embrace challenges and opportunities by adapting to industry transformation of the Built environment through lifelong professional development
- Effective in communicating, leading and nurturing teams to transform the Built Environment with strong grounding at work processes and system levels.
- Contribute in advancing the Built Environment community with due consideration of health, safety, social, productivity and environmental aspects.

Integrated Work Study Programme
Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP) provides students with the opportunity to undertake real work. Held over the span of eight months, it is designed to be more in-depth than a traditional internship. You will gain real work experience and apply the theories you learn in class with actual practice.
Study Trip
Regional Immersion In Sustainable Engineering (RISE) will create opportunities for you to visit key infrastructure facilities and projects in the region. You will gain first-hand experience in communicating with engineers, designers and operators who are working on various phases of a project such as those in design and construction. The meticulous maintenance schedule that can eliminate any incipient breakdown of the systems will also be explored. RISE is an eye-opener that will enrich students' learning experience.
Career Options
- Design Engineer (with focus on HVAC and other relevant building mechanical engineering areas)
- BIM Manager
- Facility Manager (Mechanical)
- Sustainable Building Consultant
- Building Construction (Mechanical) Engineer
