Minors
A Minor is a secondary field of study that complements the discipline of an undergraduate’s programme of study. It allows learners to gain additional knowledge and skills in a different discipline, thus enhancing their academic and professional profiles.
The number of credits required of a Minor is generally between 24 credits and 48 credits. A minimum of 18 credits would comprise modules and/or competency units unique to the Minor and outside the undergraduate degree’s discipline requirements. The remaining credits are discipline-specific modules and/or competency units. Credits attributed to the Minor are part of the learners’ undergraduate degree programme’s credits requirement for graduation unless otherwise stated.
Each learner may enrol in and graduate with one Minor along with their undergraduate degree programme.
Completion Requirements
To be awarded a Minor, learners must meet the following academic requirements:
- Credits Requirements: Complete the required credit-bearing modules and/or competency units.
- Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA): Achieve a minimum CGPA of 2.00 for the modules and/or competency units required of the Minor, in addition to meeting the stipulated graduation requirements for the undergraduate degree programme.
- Other requirements (if any): Learners must also complete any activities and/or non-credit bearing modules required of the Minor.
Learners who have fulfilled all the requirements of a Minor would have the Minor reflected in their academic transcript. No separate certificate would be issued for the Minor.
Learners who did not achieve the minimum CGPA requirement for their Minor may graduate without the Minor if they had met the overall graduation requirements for their undergraduate degree programme.
Learners may refer to the respective web pages of their undergraduate degree programmes for further information on the specific components of the Minors, as well as the specific programmes and intakes of learners eligible for each Minor.
How to Apply
Learners who are interested in pursuing a Minor should consult their Programme Leader, Academic Advisor and/or faculty to discuss their options and ensure that they have met the necessary requirements. Detailed information about the application process and timeline will be announced to learners via email. Learners are encouraged to check their SIT email accounts regularly for updates.
