[24 February 2017] – Today marked a milestone for Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) as 82 students reading Bachelor of Accountancy with Honours became the first cohort to receive a degree conferred by SIT.
The Applied Learning Pedagogy SIT adopts, linking classroom theory with real-world practice and integrating learning with the industry, helped 84% of the graduating cohort to receive priority job offers from local accounting firms
Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP)
A key platform of SIT’s Applied Learning Structure is the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP), a definitive feature of SIT’s programmes, where students undertake real work for eight to 12 months, allowing them to integrate theory and practice and develop deep specialist skills in their chosen field.
Students reading the Accountancy programme were the first to undertake and complete the IWSP, with 69 students already having received Priority Offers from accredited local accounting firms. Two graduands in particular, Amanda Teo & Lau Jingwen, who had undergone their IWSP with EY Singapore, were also given the option to accelerate their career with EY by starting in a position above entry level.
“Through the IWSP, our students get to experience first-hand the challenges faced in the current fast changing economy, and develop skills of adaptability, creativity and innovation, while applying knowledge learned in the classroom to add value to the workplace. As the results show, it also has a strong potential to lead to full-time employment upon graduation,” said Associate Professor Ivan Lee, Vice President (Industry & Community), SIT
“We are shifting to a new paradigm, driven by major demographic shifts, technological disruptions and innovations. Our workforce must be able to handle the new jobs that require different and continually changing skillsets. SIT will continue to develop and nurture a new generation of young professionals with both the right mind-set and the skillset to meet the needs of the future economy,“ said Professor Tan Thiam Soon, President, SIT.
