Fresh from their groundbreaking inaugural Degree Show 2014 at the newly-opened SIT@TP (Singapore Institute of Technology @ Temasek Polytechnic) building, the first cohort of honours students to graduate from The Glasgow School of Art (GSA) in partnership with Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) received their degrees at a ceremony today.
About 90 students received their scrolls at a ceremony led by Professor Tom Inns, Director of the GSA, and attended by Professor Tan Thiam Soon, President, SIT and luminaries such as His Excellency, Mr Antony Phillipson, The British High Commissioner to Singapore. The students are the first recipients of the BA (Hons) Communication Design and BA (Hons) Interior Design degrees awarded by GSA as part of its collaboration with SIT.
Professor Tom Inns, Director of the GSA, said, "This is a red letter day for The Glasgow School of Art as our first cohort of Communication Design and Interior Design students graduates in Singapore. Our partnership with SIT is an important part of the GSA’s international outreach and we are looking forward to developing it further in the coming years."
"For the students, the Degree Show is a key moment in their development as designers, serving as a showcase of their innovation and a launch pad for their professional careers. The first Degree Show in Singapore illustrated the high level of creativity of the young designers that they will now apply in their professional work. We wish them every success as they go forward."
