The Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) formally welcomed its incoming students for Academic Year 2014/15 at the SIT Welcome Ceremony 2014 held at the Singapore Polytechnic Convention Centre (SPCC). This academic year also marks the inaugural intake of students for SIT’s three new degree programmes in Sustainable Infrastructure Engineering (Land), Information and Communications Technology (Software Engineering) and Accountancy.

The overall intake across all programmes offered by SIT and those in partnership with SIT overseas university (OU) partners rose to over 1,700 this academic year, with around 300 forming the first cohort of students reading SIT degree programmes.

Of the remaining 28 degree programmes offered by SIT in partnership with overseas universities, the Bachelor in Science (Radiation Therapy) held in partnership with Trinity College Dublin is one of the newest additions to SIT's degree offerings. The Bachelor in Science (Diagnostic Radiography) jointly awarded by Singapore Institute of Technology and Trinity College Dublin will also see its first intake of students this September. These two new degree programmes are the latest offerings in addition to SIT’s three new degree programmes being offered this academic year.

Students enrolled in the SIT degree programmes for AY2014/15 will begin their classes this September at the SIT@Dover campus. Classes for AY2014 will also be conducted at the new SIT@TP and SIT@NP Buildings from September, with the other three buildings due to be completed by the end of the year.

Professor Tan Thiam Soon, President, SIT said, "More than 90% of applicants this year who accepted our offers listed SIT as their first choice. These are budding young talents who will emerge as best-in-class specialists after undergoing the SIT experience.
“We are especially heartened by the response to our three new degree programmes. These industry-focused degree programmes have been designed to address evolving economy needs through integrating learning, industry and the community. Beyond a robust curriculum which will stretch them academically, we hope to sharpen our thinking tinkerers and develop their ability to learn, unlearn, and relearn as part of the SIT DNA. This will prepare our students so that when they graduate, they are poised to become catalysts for transformation; as contributive SITizens who can make a difference in our community.”
