12 September 2024 – Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) graduates are highly sought after by industry, a decade after its inauguration as an autonomous university in 2014. From its first Graduate Employment Survey of graduates from SIT-conferred programmes in 2017, SIT graduates have seen a steady increase in the median gross monthly salary to $4,000 in 2023 and mean gross monthly salary to $4,209 in 2023.

SIT’s flagship Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP) is a key contributor to SIT graduates’ work-readiness as it provides valuable and substantial industry exposure. Students are immersed in the working world for up to 12 months, allowing them to not only gain practical job skills but to apply them and actively contribute to their IWSP companies. Since its launch in 2015, more than 10,000 students have participated in the programme.

SIT President Professor Chua Kee Chaing said, “Our university’s holistic approach to nurturing active learning in authentic learning environments through our applied learning pedagogy is consistently producing graduates who meet the demands of industry. As we celebrate 10 years as an autonomous university, we look forward to working more closely with industry to nurture work-ready talent who thrive in the dynamic world of work.”

Strong Demand for Class of 2023 Graduates

This strong trend of being valued by industry is seen in SIT’s healthy employment outcomes, as reported in the annual Joint Autonomous Universities Graduate Employment Survey (JAUGES) 2023[¹], conducted by SIT between 1 March and 20 May 2024.1,881 out of 2,412 SIT graduates from the Class of 2023 participated in the survey. It showed that close to 9 in 10 SIT graduates in the labour force gained employment within six months of graduation. 8 in 10 secured full-time permanent (FTP) employment[²].

Outstanding Employment Outcomes for Health Sciences and Infocomm Technology Graduates

In particular, the Health and Social Sciences (HSS) programmes have attained outstanding employment rates, with Diagnostic Radiography, Dietetics and Nutrition, and Occupational Therapy graduates achieving 100% overall employment within six months after graduation. Notably, graduates from the Dietetics and Nutrition degree programme are the programme’s pioneer batch of graduates since its launch in September 2019.

Ms Celeste Ong Kai Xin, a graduate from the Dietetics and Nutrition programme, undertook multiple clinical placements across various healthcare institutions and hospitals. She was offered a dietitian role by Tan Tock Seng Hospital before graduation, which she accepted. As a dietitian, Celeste’s primary role is to assess nutritional needs and improve the nutritional health of her patients.

Graduates from the Infocomm Technology (ICT) programmes continue to earn high starting salaries due to Singapore's strong demand for tech talent. Fresh graduates in the ICT (Information Security) degree programme earned the most among their peers, with a median gross monthly salary of $5,200. This was followed by ICT (Software Engineering) and Computer Science in Real-Time Interactive Simulation graduates, who earned a median gross monthly salary of $5,000.

ICT (Information Security) graduate Ms Claudia Chan created an automation tool to increase the efficiency of forensic analysis during her 12-month IWSP stint with Ensign InfoSecurity.

Today, she is an associate consultant with the company, where, as a penetration tester, she assists in identifying vulnerabilities in critical client systems. Graduates from Engineering and Food, Chemical and Biotechnology clusters saw the highest increases in starting salaries, with median gross monthly salaries increasing by 4.9% and 3.9%, respectively.

Offshore Engineering graduates from the Engineering Cluster saw their median gross monthly income rise to $4,200, compared to $3,675 in 2022. Marine Engineering graduates earned $4,400, up from $3,900 in 2022, while Naval Architecture graduates earned $4,450, up from $4,000 in 2022.

Pharmaceutical Engineering graduates from the Food, Chemical and Biotechnology cluster witnessed an increase in their median gross monthly income from $3,955 in 2022 to $4,150 in 2023.
