The Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) celebrates the graduation of students from Technische Universität München (TUM), DigiPen Institute of Technology (DP), and University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV). About 120 graduands attended the SIT Graduation Ceremony which was held at the Suntec City Convention Centre. Mr Heng Swee Keat, Minister for Education, celebrated with SIT as the Guest-of-Honour for the event.
This May, about 400 students are expected to graduate. This year also sees the pioneer cohort of Chemical Engineering students graduating from TUM. This graduation ceremony presented the graduates for seven degree programmes:
*Pioneer Batch
SIT also celebrates three outstanding students who received book prizes for their excellent academic results. Two graduates from TUM’s Electrical Engineering and Information Technology cohort were awarded the Sembcorp Industries Book Prize. They were: i) Tommy Indra Winata for the module in Electrical Energy Technology, and ii) Tee Tiong Keng for the module in Lab Course Automation and Intelligent Control. Bryan Yeo Jun Rong from DP’s Real-Time Interactive Simulation programme was awarded the Wing Tai Retail Prize for the module in Game Design Project IV, the first time the award was given out in SIT.
Professor Tan Thiam Soon, President, SIT shared at the Graduation Ceremony that SIT had worked with the graduands to identify their interests, talents and strengths. Furthermore, SIT provided a nurturing environment for students to build on that foundation. As a result, most students had chosen to work in an area that they had been trained for. Professor Tan said, “In other words, there is little leakage from the system – and this is enormously important as SIT works hard to help [our students] find [their] niche and to help industry meet their manpower needs in an increasingly complex and competitive global landscape.”
