Singapore, 23 April 2018 – SP Group has inked a Research Collaborative Agreement (RCA) with SIT at the 2018 International Utility Working Group (IUWG) conference, held from 23 to 27 April. The utilities meet annually to benchmark and share best practices on opportunities, disruption and transformation in the rapidly transforming industry.

The RCA between SP Group and SIT on energy-saving solutions is an important milestone in the development of SIT@Punggol by 2023. It follows the agreement SP Group and SIT inked on 23 October 2017 at the Singapore International Energy Week to build a multi-energy micro-grid at Punggol.
Professor Tan Thiam Soon, President, SIT said, “SIT is working with SP Group to build a campus at Punggol that targets zero emissions. The first of its kind in the region, the multi-energy micro-grid will also serve as a teaching and applied research platform for SIT students and other stakeholders in the energy ecosystem. While SIT students will undoubtedly benefit through this partnership by leveraging SP’s expertise, SP will eventually have an industry-ready pool of local power engineering talent that it can tap on as well.”
Among the research projects specific to Punggol Digital District (PDD) are:
• Building of tools for the planning, optimisation and management of district energy models
• Exploring converting waste to a renewable energy source;
• Solutions to provide higher energy efficiency around the campus.
The projects will enable SIT to tap on green energy sources, increase efficiency and savings, provide students with a living experimental laboratory to learn from, and help nurture local power engineering talent.
