SIT faculty from the Engineering and Infocomm Technology programme clusters are amongst the Top 2% Scientists in the world, according to a list released by Stanford University.
Congratulations to four SIT faculty members who have been listed among the Top 2% Scientists in the world by Stanford University!
The publicly available database of more than 100,000 top scientists by Stanford provides standardised information on citations, h-index (research performance based on the total number of publications and the total number of citations to those works), co-authorship adjusted hm-index (a modification of the Hirsch index which takes into account multiple co-authorship), citations to papers in different authorship positions, and a composite indicator.
Scientists are classified into 22 scientific fields and 176 sub-fields. Career-long data is updated to end-2020. The selection is based on the top 100,000 by c-score or a percentile rank of 2% or higher.

Prof Tseng King Jet is the Programme Leader of the SIT-NU BEng (Hons) Electrical Power Engineering and SIT MSc Electrical and Electronic Engineering. He has more than 25 years of academic, research, industrial, and professional experience in electrical power and energy systems. He was the Head of Power Engineering Division in Nanyang Technological University and the Board Member of the Singapore Green Building Council. Prof Tseng co-founded the Singapore-Berkeley Building Efficiency and Sustainability for the Tropics (SinBerBEST) programme and the Electrical Power Systems Integration Laboratory @ NTU, a Rolls-Royce research facility. He is a Fellow of IET and IES, and a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council.
Prof Ng Siu Choon is Associate Provost (Students & Faculty Development) at SIT. He has won the Turbett Prize, Oxford (Organic Chemistry) and was awarded the Sir Alan Sewell Visiting Fellowship, Australia. He is a Member of the Expert Panels at the National Research Foundation Singapore and Member of the Expert Panels for Research Funding Agencies, MOE Tier 2. His research interests lie in functional polymers and chiral separation materials.
Prof Ian McLoughlin is Cluster Director of Infocomm Technology at SIT, a Fellow of IET, Senior Member of the IEEE, founding Fellow of Singapore National Academy of Higher Education, and a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council. He was awarded the Chinese Academy of Science President’s International Fellowship from 2016 to 2018 and from 2021 to 2022, and has spent a third of his 30-year career in industry. His research interests lie in AI for speech and audio, and he pioneered the use of deep learning for sound event detection and sound scene analysis. He has made several important advances in speech processing, for example in language identification and enhancement, and is also significantly involved in both academic and industrial embedded systems research and development.
Associate Professor Alvin Chan
A/Prof Alvin Chan is Director of Programmes of the Infocomm Technology Cluster at SIT. He was awarded the Highest Overseas Consultancy Award by Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and the IBM Prize for Computer Engineering by IBM UK and the University of Leeds. A/Prof Chan’s research interests include middleware technologies for context aware computing, Internet of Things, mobile and cloud computing, and immersive media. A key characteristic of his research focuses on translating empirical methodologies to find applied solutions for existing problems. This led to his project team being awarded Gold Medal at the 43rd and 45th Geneva Invention Exhibition in Switzerland. He has published three co-edited books, and more than 120 papers in major international journals and conference proceedings. He is a Member of the Association of Computing Machinery and Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
